Trying to figure out this here doohickey

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

I find it funny that I had to check to see if I spelled 'doohickey' correctly. Ahh, the internet. What would I do without you?

Probably crawl into a ball and die.

But anyway, still trying to figure out this blog. Trying to make it look kind of proper before an official unveiling of the site in the near future. I will be going back to the old blog, Combinations Follow, and picking out a few articles here and there that I especially liked and want to share with the world. The rest will be deleted. Why? Because why keep an old blog that made you angry? That's just dumb.

So what can you expect from this blog? As many updates as I can possibly put up on a daily basis. Lots of opinions, because that's what makes the world work. Insightful commentary about upcoming films that we might think sound awesome or sound like they suck worse than a psycho hose beast. I have a great group of friends who want to also share their opinions to the masses and I can't wait for them to share them with you. All about the ASAP.

But I'm getting a bit tired and need to continue to pack up for the big move this weekend away from this hellhole of an apartment to hopefully a less of a hellhole.

Tomorrow I will have more stuff to say. Tommy already posted something. Hopefully other people will start cranking out some posts.

Until later, my fiends.

A quick message from me...

Thursday, September 3, 2009

I just wrote up a new article up on Forces of Geek. It's all about what 5 Marvel stories should be made into movies because of the new merger that happened in the beginning of the week. You should read it and let me know what you think.

Also, a huge Happy Birthday to the one, the only, Britt Hayes. One of the finest gals I know and wish she could be here so I could give her the biggest hug and kiss ever. Yes, this is the sweet James nobody is ever used to. It doesn't come out very often. But fuck it, it's out tonight. So deal with it.

PB&J!

What else has been going on in my life? Job interview went well, saw Inglourious Basterds and District 9 twice each. Both are superb in completely different ways yet are genre lover's dream. So those films made me happy.

Also on the horizon: G.I. Joe sequel video to our top ranking review on Youtube. Here it is for all you crazy kooky people out there.

Favorite it and spread the word. Do you want to see the Size Order Crew come back and do more reviews?? Let us know!

That's it for now. I'm tired and have another interview tomorrow. Need to be well rested for it.

Marvel is consumed by Disney?

Monday, August 31, 2009

Well, not exactly. They were bought out by Disney for $4 billion dollars. Not too shabby of a deal, when you think about the 5000 characters they can play around with in the future.

But sadly Spider-Man, The X-Men, The Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider and Daredevil are still in their respective studios right now (be it Sony or Fox) and now, with this huge deal, those studios aren't going to give back their film making rights for small change. So Disney instead will be helping distribution and whatnot. Are people worried? Some are, and I can see their concern.

Some people worry about Disney overusing the Marvel characters in horrible childish ways. I'll direct you to the picture below.

As Stan Lee would say, 'Nuff Said.

So I'm not worried about that. I'm not worried about that at all. What was the first thing that came to mind when I heard of this extraordinary news? One word. One name.

Pixar.

The possibilities are endless with Pixar in the game now. Supposedly John Lassetter visited Marvel before the deal was done and they all geeked it up big time. Which bodes well for any future CG animated Marvel movie that will be coming down the pipeline. There's a ton of characters most people don't even know about that they can exploit in the best way possible.

Devin Faraci has a great little list of 10 properties Pixar should make ASAP.  I have to say, it's a great list with some forgotten treasures. Especially Ka-Zar and The Squadron Supreme. I always loved Mark Gruenwald's unheralded classic. Sadly, The Watchmen got all the credit for being the dark and brooding super hero team comic book, even though Squadron had come out a year before. But I was surprised about Sleepwalker. I always hated that character but he makes some good points as to how it could work. Where's my Darkhawk movie?

But the first thing I thought of for Pixar to do was a storyline from Marvel that was so epic and amazing that when I read it when it first came out, I was shell shocked with the beautiful art by George Perez and Ron Lim and the stellar writing by Jim Starlin. Of course I'm speaking of The Infinity Gauntlet.

Ahh memories. I just hate that Thanos hasn't been done the way he should have been done so far in film or cartoons. I mean, in the Silver Surfer cartoon they made his love Chaos, not Death, because that would scare the kiddies. I hate playing down to children. They can take more than we give them credit for. I mean, I grew up on Terry Gilliam films and wasn't scare whatsoever.
So I welcome this new deal of Marvel being partnered up with Disney. Well, it's not really a partnership, is it? They make it out to be but Disney bought them up, so let's cross our fingers that Disney won't put Marvel to work for pennies in a factory somewhere. It would probably be right next to the Muppets.

A first blog again?

This will be the new home of my writing. I was sick of Combinations Follow, mainly because the people wanted to charge me a shit ton of money to keep it going. I said fuck that to all that noise and decided to own another site instead of paying these thieves their supposed 'penance'.

So this is the new home of James McCormick, The Media Guru himself. I'll be attempting to fix this site up, just like my friend Frank made the last site look like a real site and not some bootleg blogger like it looks like right now.

I have a Donate button to the left (might change to the right soon) to get my ass to Austin, TX. Why do I want to go there? Many reasons. For film. For my career choice. To meet a wonderful gal. Get some fantastic food. Maybe even have the chance to drink a beer while watching a double feature. Legally!

Like I said, many reasons there.

Looking for writers as well who would like to contribute again. I want this to become a new haven for film aficionados, like some of my favorite sites are right now. Let's try to break our way through and start a new witty, intelligent and opinionated site.

One can only hope.
